There’s something for everyone – from locals to visitors from around the country – at Solvang’s annual celebration of food and wine (and, more recently, beer and spirits as well). Taste of Solvang bills itself as “a culinary journey through Solvang, where wine country meets ‘dine country.'” Rarely does one find so accurate a description.
Featuring farm-to-table dishes, rustic Italian cuisine and of course, some modern Danish fare alongside award-winning wines and scrumptious sweets, it’s no wonder that this annual Central Coast California foodie festival grows more popular with each passing year.
What’s new this year
After 24 years, Taste of Solvang is an honored tradition. But the festival’s planners don’t want it to get stale, so they’ve added some new aspects and revamped some old ones for 2016. The beloved Saturday food tasting event – rebranded the “Tasting Trail” – will highlight Solvang food businesses and introduce guests to local merchants.
Friday’s evening reception has gotten a makeover too. Opening Night: Sip + Savor, as it’s now called, has grown to include bakers, chefs, and fine dining establishments offering their delectable Danish-inspired treats. And the night wouldn’t be complete without a variety of Santa Ynez Valley wineries and breweries in attendance.
On Sunday, the final day of the festival, there will be another new event, Bubbles, Brews & Brunch. A casual buffet brunch featuring live music, a mimosa bar and lots of tasting stations, it’s the perfect way to relax and unwind after a long and delicious weekend.
