Beers and bicycles may not seem a natural partnership, but that’s only because you’ve never been to the Outside Bike & Brew festival in Santa Fe.
From Thursday, May 19 to Sunday, May 22, thousands of professional and amateur cyclists, bike builders, brew aficionados and music lovers will pedal their way past the luxury real estate of Santa Fe as they take part in more than 60 official rides, clinics (under the tutelage of self-proclaimed “Queen of Pain” Rebecca Rusch) and community events. For a full schedule, see here.
In addition to all bike- and brew-related festivities, visitors will also have the opportunity to attend tours, film screenings and concerts. And lest the most important part isn’t mentioned, there are nearly a dozen local restaurants offering tap takeovers and beer dinners throughout the weekend.
The Main Event
As part of the Main Event on Friday, May 20, visitors and vendors alike will gather for a beer festival, bike expo (featuring products from Shimano, Maxxis, Yeti and plenty of other premier brands), a showcase of hand-crafted bikes, bike films and a main concert. Con Brio, a popular San Francisco-based band, will perform on the main stage on Friday night.
Partnership with Uber
This year, the Outside festival is partnering up with Uber and Yakima, the gear retailer, to collaborate on Uber PEDAL. This program, specially designed for Bike and Brew, equips local drivers with bike racks to ensure that every visitor – not to mention their bike – gets back home safely.
