California is not the most popular destination for the holidays, as so many individuals seek out snowy landscapes to get in the spirit. However, those individuals will never know the true glory of the Golden State around the holidays. One of the best places to be around this time of year is the Monterey Peninsula, where festive events are in full swing. This Dec. 9 and 10, residents and tourists are invited to head on over to the Christmas in the Adobes, which is one of Monterey’s most beloved holiday season traditions.
The adobes of Monterey date back to the 19th Century, and are located in the Historic Downtown area. Each December, these beautiful clay homes and the neighborhood they populate opens up for a festive cultural occasion. Some of the activities involved in this year’s iteration of the event include bagpipes, fandango dance and plenty of games.
More than 20 adobe buildings will be open to attendees this year, including the Custom House, Casa del Oro, First Brick House, Colton Hall, Monterey Museum of Art, Robert Louis Stevenson House and Casa Abrego.
Tickets can be purchased online through the California Department of Parks and Recreation’s website, or at the Custom House. This year’s Christmas in the Adobes will be held on Friday Dec. 9 and Saturday Dec. 10 between 5:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. local time. Do not miss out on an opportunity to be a part of this beautiful and educational experience in Historic Downtown Monterey – make plans to spend some time at Christmas in the Adobes this year!
