Big Sur Foragers Festival

Monterey County is home to some of the most gorgeous luxury real estate in the world, as well as impeccable vistas and natural wonders throughout its boundaries. Big Sur could easily be considered as the most beloved landmark in the area, as it was once declared to be the “greatest meeting of land and water in the world” by renowned artist Francis McComas. Each year, Big Sur comes alive in January with a three-day event called the Big Sur Foragers Festival. This year’s iteration of the festival is sure to bring joy and excitement to all those in attendance.

Hosts include Carmel Valley Ranch and Ventana Big Sur, while a big variety of new and traditional events will take place throughout the festival, which will be held from Jan. 13 through Jan. 15. Those who have attended the festival in the past will be happy to hear that this year’s festivities will include long-time favorite schedule items such as dinner at Sierra Mar restaurant, grand chef dinner at Carmel Valley Ranch, foraging walks with experts and, of course, the famous “Fungus Face-Off.” The Fungus Face-Off will showcase hosts Tim Wood, a chef, and restaurant aficionado and chef Rodney Worth from the Bay Area.

The 2017 Big Sur Foragers Festival will also include some new additions to the event schedule, including a vendor’s market and a night with executive chef Chad Minton at the Hyatt Carmel Highlands complete with Bonny Doon Vineyard wines and a three-course meal. The foraging walks will go through Pfeiffer State Park on Jan. 15, giving attendees an opportunity to see this incredible landmark through the eyes of expert foragers, including the hike leader Steve Copeland.

Ticket prices vary for each of the events involved, but all information can be found through the official 2017 Big Sur Foragers Festival website. Certain events are known to sell out relatively early on, especially the Fungus Face-Off, so interested parties are encouraged to purchase their tickets as far ahead of time as possible. Any chance to go to Big Sur should be taken, and this is certainly a one-of-a-kind festival that all food and nature lovers will be sure to enjoy.
